Two Students from Bonny Eagle High School selected for the Boys State program

April 24, 2008--Standish, ME

Bonny Eagle High School (BEHS) students Perry Cyr and Zach Litif have been selected by Post 128 to attend the 61st annual American Legion Dirigo Boys State program to be held at Thomas College in Waterville during the week of June 15-19, 2008.

The purpose of Boys State is to provide Maine high school juniors with the opportunity to participate in a program that supplements their high school courses in government and its functions.  In this program, young men role-play as they learn to campaign for local, county, and state offices and then organize and carry out the functions of the state government.

The students were nominated by the faculty at BEHS and selected by Post 128 because they have demonstrated above their peers the desired qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their school and community.

In addition to being selected to the Boys State program, each of the students were presented with an American Legion School Award Medal.  This is the highest honor awarded to American Youth by the American Legion.  It is a medal that proclaims to the community that each of these young men are the kind of students that the members of Post 128, the comrades of men and women who gave their lives in service to our great nation, believe worthy of such an honor.

A special note of thanks to Norway Savings Bank and Coldwell Banker Friends & Neighbor Realty in Standish for contributing funds to sponsor these deserving young men.

After the students attend the Boys State program, each will be asked to return to Post 128 to give a report on their activities and experiences.  Congratulations to Perry and Zach!
