Post members place American flags on the graves of veterans in observance of Memorial Day

May 24, 2008--Standish, ME

Members of Post 128 and the Standish Kiwanis spent their Saturday morning placing new American flags on many veteran grave sites located in several community cemeteries in the Standish/Steep Falls area.  The volunteers donated their time and efforts in order to observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, and to honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans who have passed on.

Above, Post 128 member Bruce Chapman (right) instructs a group of youths on the proper placement of the flag, on the history of Memorial Day, and why it's important to remember and honor those who have served.

Below, the scene at the Steep Falls Cemetery after the volunteers, both young and not-so-young, completed their work honoring local veterans.  Thanks to everyone who helped in this noble cause.
