Post 128 participates in the Standish Summer Spectacular activities
June 25-26, 2010--Standish, ME
Post 128 began the festivities for the Standish Summer Spectacular on Friday evening, June 25, by sponsoring - for the 3rd consecutive year - a concert performed by
The Chandler's Band, the nation's 2nd oldest professional band in continuous service. Lead by conductor Faith Varney, the concert - held next to scenic Watchic Lake at Kiwanis Beach - started promptly at 6:30 p.m. and featured a number of patriotic songs and marches to the delight of the large audience in attendance.
Post 128 again extends a heartfelt thank you to Faith and The Chandler's Band for their time and for another rousing concert.
Then on Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m., members of Post 128 and the Legion Auxiliary rode in the Spectacular Parade that traveled west on Route 25 from Blake Road to Standish Village. Our contingent was lead by Service Officer Albert Springer on his ATV, along with 1st Vice Commander Harold Ware and Excom Member Lou Stack in tow on a trailer.
Other Post members followed behind Albert, Harold, and Lou, including Commander Alan Dube and Bob Cain riding in the bed of a new pickup truck supplied by
Sebago Lake Chevrolet (and driven by Excom Member Don Roy) for the parade. Sergeant-at-Arms Bruce Roubo then followed in his pickup with the Legion Auxiliary in tow. Riding along with Bruce was our Master-of-Honor Claude Webber, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force .
We enjoyed beautiful weather for both events, and a fun time was had by all!
