Post 128 observes Armed Forces Day with a community event and presentations
May 15, 2010--Standish, ME
Post 128, in conjunction with other civic groups, armed services organizations, and local businesses, held an Armed Forces Day observance on Saturday, May 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Post Home. The event was held to recognize and honor local families with members currently serving in the military. Blue Star banners were presented to six families, and representatives from the Air National Guard, Army National Guard, Navy, and Operation Homefront were in attendance.
Also present were the Standish Town Manager and Public Safety officer, members of the Standish Kiwanis, Lions and Legion Auxilliary, and representatives from Saco River Community TV and WJZF FM Radio. Excellent music was provided during the day by the Dave Fernald Band.
The Standish Fire Department displayed some of their equipment, and volunteers from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office also set up and demonstrated an Iris Scan ID system.
Post 128 also received a "Letter of Sentiment" from the Maine State Legislature, presented to the Post by Rep. Mike Shaw and Sen. Bill Diamond.
