Legionnaires of Post 128 participate in Memorial Day service
May 31, 2010--Standish, ME
A Memorial Day service sponsored by Post 128 and the Standish Historical Society was held at the Standish Municipal Center on May 31, 2010. Master-of-Ceremonies Bud Sawyer opened the service, followed by the Presentation of the Colors by the Boy Scouts of Troop 875, during which the National Anthem was played.
Post Commander Alan Dube then had some opening remarks, followed by a prayer by Post Chaplain Mike Lynch. Then after an interlude of some patriotic music, State Senator Bill Diamond, State Representative Mike Shaw, Standish Town Councilor Terry Christy, and the Reverend Dr. Cynthia Bland Biggers each spoke about Memorial Day and its meaning.
Wreaths were then placed at the Post 128 monument, followed by the playing of Taps. A medley of armed services songs was then played, while veterans of each branch of service in attendance were asked to step forward and be recognized.
The service closed with comments by Commander Dube, a prayer by Chaplain Lynch, a flag tribute by Kiwanis Treasurer Todd Delaney, and closing comments by Post Adjutant Will Hamilton. The playing of "God Bless America" followed.
