Post 128 and Boy Scout Troop 875 Conduct a Flag Day ceremony
June 14, 2010--Standish, ME
Post 128, along with Boy Scout Troop 875, held a ceremony for the Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags in observance of Flag Day on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Post Home.
The event started promptly at 7:00 p.m., with Sergeant-at-Arms Bruce Roubo and Flag Detail members Don Roy and Lou Stack presenting 2nd Vice Commander Henry Deschaine, 1st Vice Commander Harold Ware, and Commander Alan Dube with retired flags for inspection. After a prayer by Chaplain Mike Lynch and brief comments on the meaning and importance of the flag to our nation and its veterans by Commander Dube, the Colors were posted by the Boy Scouts, and Commander Dube ordered that the flags be properly destroyed.
As members of Post 128, Troop 875, the Cub Scouts, and the general public looked on, "To The Colors" was played, and then over 300 flags were properly disposed of by placing them on a ceremonial fire.
Post 128 would like to thank the Boy Scouts and everyone else who contributed to, participated in, and attended this fitting event.
